Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh, the running mate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has stated that a new administration led by Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia will implement a more comprehensive approach to sustainable mining.
He stated that the future NPP administration will ban mining in waterways and forest areas.
According to the former Energy Minister, the incoming NPP administration would supply ecologically friendly mining equipment that reduces damage to the environment and river bodies.
The running mate was speaking to residents of Odotobri in the Ashanti Region during his campaign tour.
”Laws will be enacted to prohibit mining in rivers and forest reserves, while regulating mining activities. The government will introduce a policy equipping mining communities and community mining initiatives to protect the environment.”
