The Electoral Commission (EC) has assured the National Democratic Congress (NDC) that it will re-exhibit the corrected Provisional Voters Register (PVR) online before the final version is printed for the 2024 general elections.
This was contained in a statement issued in response to the petition the NDC submitted to the EC when it held the ‘Enough is Enough’ demonstration.
According to the EC, it was not opposed to a physical exhibition at all 40,000+ centres but indicated that time constraints would not allow them to do so.
The EC said it would take around four weeks to print and distribute the corrected register—making it unfeasible considering how close the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections were.
“The Commission intends to implement an online exhibition of the PVR at no cost to registered voters. Voters will be able to report on anomalies with their details within a time frame to be made available to the public. The voter register will be displayed online until the election day.”
The EC responding to the call for the forensic audit stated that “the Commission is of the view that the legal and administrative processes laid down to clean the PVR have not been fully exhausted to justify the calls for a forensic audit.” We entreat the public to trust us to carry out our mandate.”
