Presidential candidate of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), Madam Akua Donkor, has slammed the National Democratic Congress (NDC), accusing it of peddling falsehoods regarding the provisional register.
Taking her turn at an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, she said the NDC is intentionally peddling lies against the EC and the Chair, Madam Jean Mensa, to give her and the Commission a bad name.
She commended the EC chair, saying she has demonstrated beyond doubt that she is more than capable.
The unlettered politician and farmer said during the registration exercise, the EC gave opportunity to all the parties to send their representatives to the various centres and have also taken steps in addressing all the discrepancies the NDC identified.
Madam Donkor expressed gratitude to God for appointing Madam Jean Mensa as EC Chair, praising her accomplishments as both her daughter and the commission’s head. Since taking office, Madam Mensa has successfully overcome numerous challenges, including the NDC’s court action following the 2020 elections. Nevertheless, the NDC persists in making accusations and alleging discrepancies within the voter register.
The Electoral Commission instructed parties to send representatives to registration centers during the exercise, and I complied. Registration was completed successfully, yet the NDC still raises objections. Is the NDC not aware of the EC Chair’s divine appointment? Their attempts to discredit her will fail. I will maintain support for her strength as an exceptional leader. Why are they targeting her with unwarranted criticism? They disseminate misinformation about the register without presenting evidence. What evidence do they have?
Stop your smearing campaign. The upcoming elections will be free, fair, and transparent, so why continue to lie about her?
