Medical professional and dermatologist with the Rabito Clinic, Dr. Kama S. Jehu-Appiah, has called on the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Effiduase Asokore and Chairman of Parliament’s Health Committee, Dr. Ayew Afriyie, to render an apology to the Ghana Medical Association for his reckless galamsey comments.
He slammed the MP for stating unequivocally that the government has no intention of banning illegal mining.
The dermatologist expressed concern that the MP, despite their position of influence, deliberately politicised the galamsey issue, which has degenerated into an epidemic situation.
He labelled the comments reckless and irresponsible, asserting that such behaviour from a medical professional was completely unacceptable and tarnished his professional standing.
Speaking on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, he said the MP behaved as if he had never been to school before.
He said the apology must also be extended to Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II because he is from there, to his political party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), his family, and Ghanaians.
‘’And I heard a doctor who is an MP who is also talking as if he’s been to school before. I condemn whatever he said that they were not going to fight against Galamsey today, tomorrow, or the next day. I think it is a reckless statement. He should apologise to the Ghana Medical Association (GMA); he should apologise to Asantehene because he is an Asante man; he should apologise to his party and everybody in Ghana; and he should apologise to his family. I condemn it, and he shouldn’t have said what he said.’’
