A Deputy Ranking Member on the Education Committee of Parliament, Dr. Clement Apaak, has described as false the claims made by Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) promoted sexuality education.
Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, commonly known as NAPO, claimed that upon assuming office as Education Minister, he discovered that the NDC, under the leadership of Okudzeto Ablakwa, had developed a curriculum that included Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) for schoolchildren.
He also alleged that the NDC had strategically placed church leaders and imams in various regions to influence teachers in the implementation of this curriculum.
But Dr. Apaak, who is an academic and Member of Parliament for Builsa South, slammed the running mate of the NPP, wondering why he would peddle such falsehoods.
He stressed that it was under NAPO that the curriculum on sexuality education was designed from scratch.
He added that the government was forced to abandon the curriculum following public backlash.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Dr. Apaak insisted that the NDC had nothing to do with this new curriculum because the Nana Addo led administration designed and introduced the guidelines for the Comprehensive Sexuality Education.
‘’NAPO lied; Hon. Ablakwa as Deputy Education Minister and the NDC had nothing to do with Comprehensive Sexuality Education. It was during the tenure of Hon. Matthew Opoku Prempeh [NAPO], the NPP running mate, as the Education Minister, that the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia NPP government announced guidelines and plans to introduce Comprehensive Sexuality education into our pre-tertiary educational system in 2019. They backed off due to the overwhelming push back by the Ghanaian people, led by faith-based organizations. See video evidence,’’ the post read.
