On Wednesday, October 9, 2024, gunshots were fired during a conflict between Ghana Police Service troops and Customs officials.
The incident occurred at the Missiga Immigration Service checkpoint in Bawku, following a dispute between security forces over alleged cocoa bean smuggling.
According to emerging details, the incident between the two security forces happened after police officers refused to allow Customs agents to investigate a Togo-bound truck suspected of carrying smuggled cocoa beans.
The officials from Customs suspected the truck was carrying smuggled cocoa beans and insisted on inspecting the truck.
But this led to a heated standoff with police officers.
The situation is said to have escalated into an exchange of gunfire between the Customs and police personnel.
The military had to later intervene in an attempt to de-escalate the confrontation.
