Provide our communities with electricity or refrain from organizing elections – Chiefs and People

vote it

The chiefs and residents of eight communities in the Twifo Atti-morkwa district, comprising Kainan, Mampongso, Mantekrom, Odumase, Nsuoakyir, and others, have set a two-week deadline for the NPP government to provide electricity connections by October 15, 2024.

Failure to meet this demand will result in a collective vote against the NPP in the December 7 polls.

The communities have been seeking electricity for eight years, with a contracted project initiated in 2016 but subsequently abandoned.

Leaders, including Nana Yaw Adoboah I and Hon. Augustine Appiah, have voiced grievances and allegations of misconduct against project officials.

Nana Yaw Adoboah I, Chief of Twifo Nsuoakyir, spoke on behalf of eight affected communities, expressing frustration that over 1,000 residents have been seeking electricity connections for eight years without success.

“Despite the government awarding the project to a contractor in 2016, who installed low-tension poles and laid cables, the work remains abandoned. If the government fails to reinstate the contractor by October 15 to complete the project, the chiefs will perform rituals to prohibit voting for the ruling New Patriotic Party on December 7.

Hon. Augustine Appiah, Assembly Member for Bimpongso electoral area, alleged that the project supervisor smuggled materials, prompting reports to the DCE and police commander for investigation.

“We have since reported the foreman to both the DCE and police commander in the Twifo Atti-morkwa district to call and investigate him about those missing materials,”  Hon. Augustine Appiah noted.
