The Public Services Workers’ Union of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) has served notice of an indefinite strike action.
The Union says it will embark on the strike action from October 21, 2022.
The Union leadership indicated that government has not been fair to members of the PSWU.
According to them, for the past ten years since the implementation of the single-spine pay policy, more of its members have been added.
According to the union, it has decided to embark on the strike action due to the failure of the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), representing the government and employer, to honour their request for Institution
Specific Allowances for PublicServices Workers’ Union (PSW) member organisations subsisting on the Single Spine Pay Policy (SSPP).
Accordingly, the structures of our union have decided to undertake a host of industrial actions to’secure our survival as workers.’Following initial engagements with FWSC on 24th and 25th September, we, on 27th September, communicated the temporary suspension of our planned industrial action to provide respite for all parties to engage in goodfaith with a view to reaching some understandings within a fortnight.
Since then, no further engagements have been held, nor have we reached any consensus on our request, let alone conclude on the same. It therefore seems to us that the usual strategy of quickly seeking to sign rules of engagement so as to seem to be attending to an issue has been reactivated by the government through the FWSC.
Consequently, we are left with no other option than to reactivate our previously communicated industrial action. However, before our withdrawal of services on the aforementioned date, all PSWU members Subsisting on the SSPP (list attached) shall commence wearing red bands from tomorrow, Tuesday, 15th October, 2024, to press home our demands. If the issue is not resolved as expected, all PSWU members on the single spine shall commence an indefinite strike effective Monday, 21″ October 2024.”
