Bishop Salifu and Mouha Amoako, Elrad Amoako’s parents, were granted bail by the Accra High Court in the wake of the East Legon incident that claimed two lives.
Linda Bempah, a third accused person described by the prosecution as a sales assistant at Lilo Stitches, owned by the suspect’s brother, has also been granted bail.
Bishop Salifu Amoako and Mouha Amoako, the suspect driver’s parents, were arrested by police on Tuesday and appeared in court on Wednesday.
They have been charged with allowing an unlicensed individual to drive.
The prosecution informed the court that the man of God and his wife admitted during interrogation that they allowed their child, the suspect in the case, to drive to the gym and other locations.
The prosecution has stated, however, that the keys to the Jaguar car belonging to the suspect’s mother, Mouha Amoako, were given to Elrad by the third accused, Linda Bempah.
Lawyers for the accused petitioned the court for bail on the grounds that they have fixed addresses, are gainfully employed, are well-known in society, and will appear for trial.
The lawyers also informed the court that the accused have no intention of committing another offence while on bail or interfering with investigations.
They also urged the court to consider the fact that the charge against the accused is a misdemeanour.
The prosecution did not oppose the bail application, but did emphasise the need for the court to consider a strict bail condition.
After considering all of the arguments presented, the court granted the Bishop, the wife, and the third accused person bail in the amount of Ghc 50,000 each.
