The newly appointed coach for the England national team, Thomas Tuchel, says he feels proud to be appointed as the manager of the team.
According to him, he will do everything to show respect to this role and to the country.
The coach stated that he was hoping to bring glory to England, adding that ‘’It suited my passion and my strive to push it over the line and try to put a second star on the shirt’’.
When asked if this appointment was his biggest challenge and whether it would be his biggest achievement if he helped England win a World Cup, he said, ‘’I understood very quickly that it’s a big job. I think it’s always the job you’re in. It’s the biggest job that you don’t get, and it does not make a lot of sense to compare, but it feels big and feels like, like, a privilege. It is very new because I come from club football, so the rhythm, the responsibility, and the role are new, which is also very exciting. I was very open for that and liked the idea of it. Once Mark and then John made clear to me that this job is about football, we never lost momentum, and once I made a time frame up in my mind from January to the World Cup, I felt all excited and that it suited my passion and my strive to push this group of players and to be part of this federation with such a strong record in the last tournaments to push over the line and to try to put over the line and to try and put a second star on the shirt’’.
He told Sky Sports that “We will do everything we can to make England successful and the supporters proud.”
He becomes the Three Lions’ third foreign coach after Sven-Goran Eriksson and Fabio Capello.
Tuchel will be assisted by English coach Anthony Barry, who worked with him at Chelsea and Bayern Munich.
Lee Carsley will take interim charge of the senior team during the November international break for games against Greece and the Republic of Ireland, before returning to his previous role as U21s manager.
