Private legal practitioner and leader of Democracy Hub, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, has been granted bail after several attempts by his lawyers to apply for bail failed following his arrest some weeks ago.
He was part of the 40 demonstrators who were arrested while demonstrating against illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey.
Mr. Barker-Vormawor was granted GHC 20,000 bail today, Wednesday, October 16, 2024.
He was arrested for his involvement in incidents that took place on Saturday, September 21, and Sunday, September 22, at the 37 Intersection in Accra.
His lawyers made two attempts at securing him bail, but their applications for bail were denied.
He is required to report to the police twice per week.
He faces charges of stealing, unlawful assembly, unlawful damage, assault on a public officer, and offensive conduct conducive to a breach of peace.
