Majority Leader Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has reacted to the decision by the Speaker Alban Bagbin to declare four seats in the house vacant following a petition filed by Tamale South MP Haruna Iddrisu.

The new Majority Leader says this would be an opportunity for them to begin the process to reset our country.

The Speaker ruled that three seats held by New
Patriotic Party (NPP) members and one seat held by an NDC member were vacant.

The MPs who were affected by the ruling are the NDC’s Peter Yaw Kwakye Ackah of Amenfi Central constituency, Andrew Amoakoh Asiamah of Fomena, Kojo Asante, NPP MP for Suhum in the Eastern Region, and NPP’s Cynthia Morrison of Agona West constituency.

Speaking on the Floor of Parliament, he stated,”You have done what is right. It is in the national interest. Permit me to congratulate the NDC. This is the beginning of the process to reset Ghana. Beginning the next sitting, we will take over. The new minority have just walked out; that does not stop us. Mr Speaker, we thank you very much.”

Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson expressed satisfaction over the matter, and while addressing the media, he said the people of Ghana have always banned Parliament for failing in its duty to the people.

He said the NDC did not have the majority at the time, but this declaration has afforded them the opportunity to be declared the majority and that they will use this to reset the country.

He announced that their side will take immediate steps in appointing a new Second Deputy Speaker and other leaders of the various leadership roles for the various committees in the House.

“We thank the Speaker for standing with the people of Ghana, respecting the constitution of the Republic of Ghana, and respecting precedent and the standing orders of the Parliament of Ghana.”
