The Members of Parliament on the side of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have staged a walkout out of the chamber.
It remains unclear why the MPs who were earlier in the chamber walked out.
The NPP MPs and NDC MPs have both made claims of being the majority, and their members occupied the majority seats when the House resumed on Tuesday, October 22, 2024. 10.22
The NDC MPs have maintained that their side is the majority despite the stay of execution of that declaration made by Speaker Alban Bagbin in declaring some four seats vacant.
The Majority Caucus, led by Frank Annoh-Dompreh, slammed the NDC MPs for occupying their seats.
Security in and around Parliament has been heightened in anticipation of clashes between the two sides.
MPs and parliamentary staff were screened before entering the chamber for business.
Bodyguards of the MPs were not permitted inside.
Access to the public gallery was restricted, and parking around the Grand Arena was tightly controlled to prevent congestion.
