Madam Lydia Seyram Alhassan, Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon, has criticised her opponent in the upcoming parliamentary election, John Dumelo.
The Sanitation Minister lashed out at John Dumelo, calling him disrespectful.
According to the MP, she is surprised the candidate had the audacity to mention her name after demeaning her for political reasons.
“I’m wondering how he summoned the courage to mention my name. I’d rather not mention his name because he lacks respect and discipline. I was surprised he had gathered the courage to mention my name.
‘’Is he not ashamed to even mention my name? I don’t want to mention his name. I don’t even want to know about him. He is not disciplined. He lacks self-respect and respect for others. If I were to be him, I would not even mention the name Lydia Seyram Alhassan ever again.’’
She was responding to allegations by John Dumelo that she was engaging in vote buying schemes.
The MP took him to cleaners, clarifying that she is not engaging in vote-buying schemes but rather rolled out several initiatives to support small-scale businesses and offer assistance to the youth by providing scholarships to a lot of students.
According to her, she feels proud to have offered the assistance to her constituents, and she has no regrets about that.
”I promised to help the men and women who needed it in my constituency. I promised to support the small businesses in my district, and I have done so. I do that, and I am proud to say that I support both women and men. I support the constituency’s youth. I have a scholarship scheme through which I have paid fees for more than 1,000 students during my four years as MP. I will proudly state that I have helped women start businesses. I’ve been able to get people who would have been on the streets back into school.
I’m very proud of my achievements. God has been good to me throughout these years. You want to be an MP and claim to be providing support that I already do, yet you criticise me? What’s the point of contesting if you believe this is a sin?
