Former President John Dramani Mahama has congratulated Foreign Affairs Minister Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey on her election as the Commonwealth Secretary-General.
In a Facebook post, the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate expressed his excitement over the news.
Mr. Mahama expressed his excitement because the outgoing Secretary-General is female and will be replaced by a female from Ghana.
He has therefore requested Madam Botchwey to use her new position to make Ghana and Africa proud.
In his post he wrote ‘’ Congratulations Shirley Ayorkor Botchway on your election as Secretary General of the Commonwealth.
You will be joining a special group of diplomats to help make the Commonwealth and the world a better place.
I am particularly excited that after Patricia Scotland, we have another distinguished female at the head of the Commonwealth.
Make Ghana and Africa proud with your leadership of the 56-member Organisation.’’
