Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo has ordered that courts in the Upper East Region be closed immediately as a result of the renewed Bawku conflict.
The Judicial Service Secretary, Justice Cyra Pamela Koranteng JA, issued a statement on Tuesday, October 29, 2024.
The statement advised registrars to protect all court assets and staff to prioritise their safety.
The Chief Justice’s decision comes after court staff and judges raised concerns about their safety and security. The closure will be in effect until further notice.
The affected courts include the following:
1. High Court, Bolgatanga
2. Circuit Court, Bolgatanga
3. District Court, Bolgatanga
4. District Court, Zuarungu
5. District Court, Zebila
6. District Court, Garu
7. District Court, Bongo
