The founder of Worldwide Miracle Outreach, Rev. Dr. Lawrence Tetteh has apologised to the University of Ghana (UG) following statements he made on GTV’s Breakfast Show on October 24, 2024.
The man of God had claimed that several students were HIV-positive, attributing this to alleged promiscuous behaviour on campus.
The senior minister said that “the number of young boys and girls in Legon who are HIV positive would shock you.”
The management of the school demanded an apology from the man of God, describing his comments as misinformation that could lead to unnecessary fear and stigma.
The school’s statement indicated that “only scientific methods are valid for diagnosing infections,” cautioning against making public statements without data-backed evidence.
Rev. Lawrence Tetteh expressed regret in his apology letter.
He noted that he did not intend to undermine the university or spread fear, stigma, or misinformation.
According to him, he was only expressing his opinion over a broader societal issue faced by youth and not to single out UG students.
He added that the comments he made were premised on his experiences counselling young people who share confidential information about personal struggles.
