The Ghana Police Service has described as false the social media claims suggesting that the 16-year-old suspect involved in the East Legon accident, which tragically claimed two lives, is not being held at the Osu Correctional Centre as directed by the court.
The service, in a statement, was taken to the Osu Correctional Centre following a court order issued on November 1, 2024, and remains there in detention.
It warned that the social media claims are false and cautioned that publishing such misinformation constitutes an offence under Section 208 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29), which addresses the spread of false news.
The Police revealed that it has identified two accounts associated with the false information: a TikTok user with the handle “prisywanlov1” and a Facebook user named “EmpressPapa A-Amigos.”
It added that the persons behind these accounts would be pursued and prosecuted.
“We find it deeply unfortunate that some individuals are using this situation in an unGhanaian manner to draw attention to themselves.”
