John Dramani Mahama, the presidential candidate of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has stated that disenfranchising the people of Santrokofi, Akpafu, Lolobi, and Likpe (SALL) is the fourth republic’s cardinal sin.
The former president emphasised that the residents’ lack of an MP during the last four years constituted a violation of their democratic rights.
Mr. Mahama added that the people of SALL have been left without a representative in parliament to address their problems or speak for their interests.
He made the remarks while touring the Akpafu area for campaign activities.
Mahama condemned the lack of representation, calling it the “cardinal sin” of Ghana’s Fourth Republic.
“The justice system must be consistent if it is inconsistent, it is not fair to the people of this country, because you can’t treat people, one way. Four years they can be without a member of parliament, it doesn’t matter, their representation is not important to you Gyakye Quayson should be out of parliament for almost two years it doesn’t matter because the Assin North people are not your people, then it comes to NPP.
“The Speaker declares their seat vacant for one and a half months until we go to the election that one it is unheard of, their human rights are being affected I mean, what kind of justice system is this? We believe that an injustice was done to the people of SALL and as it is called the cardinal sin of the fourth republic and never again must this happen”.
“The right of everybody in Ghana is important and everybody must be equal before the law the people, of Santrokofi, Akpafu, Lolobi, and Likpe are not inferior citizens of Ghana, the citizens of Assin north are not inferior citizens of Ghana”.
