The Electoral Commission (EC) has maintained that it has handed over the final voters’ register to all the political parties and independent candidates contesting in the presidential and parliamentary elections.
The EC, in a statement, noted that the soft copies were presented to the political parties on external hard drives.
The hard drives the EC said contained the valid voters register, the exceptional list, the multiples list, the transferred voters list, the absent voters list, the manual verification list, the proxy voters list, and the special voters list.
The electoral body said the opposition National Democratic Congress requested the summary of the above lists, but the law does not require the EC to hand them over.
But the EC, in line with its responsiveness, granted the request, adding that in order to ensure transparency and accountability, the EC generated the summaries requested on a regional basis.
