Michael Donyinah Mensah, Executive Director of the Centre for Public Awareness and Opinion (CenPOA), has urged the Electoral Commission to implement measures to ensure free, fair, and transparent elections.
He stated that the EC must work with all stakeholders in the impending presidential and parliamentary elections on December 7 to ensure a transparent process.
The analyst posited that the EC must avoid engaging in activities that will undermine their credibility.
He charged the body to be accountable to the people and prevent it’s stakeholders from questioning the process before, during, and after the elections.
He recounted how the EC declared different election results due to its failure to be diligent.
Michael Donyina Mensah said the 2024 general elections were crucial and must be held in a manner where all parties involved would accept the outcome, whether it went in their favour or not.
”The Election Commission should ensure that elections are free, fair, and transparent. It should protect its reputation and avoid actions that will instill distrust. I recall that during the 2020 elections, the EC made several mistakes and announced different results. We do not want a repeat of this in the 2024 election. “The 2024 election is a volatile one, and any mistake could jeopardise our peace and stability,” he said.
