Adansi Asokwa Member of Parliament K.T. Hammond has asked Speaker Alban Bagbin to learn to respect the orders, directives, and judgements of the Supreme Court.
The Trade and Industry Minister posited that the Speaker is supposed to be the custodian of the Constitution but did otherwise.
KT Hammond said the Speaker decided not to respect the Constitution and the Supreme Court of the land, describing it as outlandish.
Speaking to journalists after the Supreme Court had declared as unconstitutional in a 5-2 decision the declaration of the four seats vacant, the MP said Bagbin, per his calibre, should have demonstrated leadership.
“He is supposed to be the custodian of the Constitution, but this man decided not to respect the Constitution. Not only that, he decided not to respect the Supreme Court of the land. It is outlandish. I haven’t seen anything like that in my life.”
He also described as surprising the claim by the Speaker that he respects the supremacy of the constitution and not the Supreme Court.
He noted that he does not have anything personal against the Speaker, but he disagreed with him on the current matter, which has been decided by the court in a clear manner.
“The point is that I do not agree that a person of his calibre will not respect the ruling of the Supreme Court. Now it has been clearly put by the Supreme Court. The writ filed by the Majority Leader of the House has succeeded.
The Speaker Bagbin has absolutely no choice but to comply. Tell Ato and his followers to move back to where they were sitting. We expect that to be done without delay. Bagbin must learn to respect the authority of the Supreme Court,” he declared.
