Madam Solace Akomeah, Regional Communications Manager for Ghana Water-Accra West, has urged Ghanaians, particularly its customers, to be responsible citizens by paying their bills.
She stated that the service offered to consumers was neither free or charitable; therefore, it is every customer’s responsibility to pay their bills on time and on schedule.
She noted that many people believe that if they pay half of their bills, the other half should be free.
Such an assertion, she stated, was unfortunate and would only harm the organisation.
“There are those who believe that after paying 50% of their bills, the remaining 50% should not be paid. They believe that even if you do not pay, you will not be held responsible. But this is a misleading story. As a result, I will remind consumers to pay their bills on a regular basis. They should avoid piling it up. We provided really reasonable water to our individual homes, and please pay for it.”
Appearing on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, Madam Akomeah said as part of efforts to improve on its revenue mobilisation, GWCL has introduced flexible payment options.
These options include a customer app, mobile money services, and partnering with various banks for a hassle-free payment experience to upgrade the billing and collection systems.
She explained that these initiatives aim to facilitate compliance and ensure that our customers can easily meet their financial obligations.
“We’ve established more flexible payment options. We currently have roughly seven payment platforms. We still accept traditional payment methods, so you can pay your invoices at any of our offices. We also have third suppliers and collectors who help GWCL collect our bills. We also offer numerous electronic payment options. We collaborate with all of the various telecommunications companies.
Then there’s the almighty, the Ghana Water Customer App, which I refer to as having Ghana Water in your pocket. When you download it into your phone, you may accomplish anything linked to Ghana Water at your leisure without having to visit any of the offices. You review your history, report any faults, and GWCL personnel will be there to rectify them.”
