The Regional Communications Manager for Ghana Water-Accra West, Madam Solace Akomeah, has indicated that the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) provides the safest and yet most affordable water to the Ghanaian public.
She said as a solely government-owned water utility company, it has the responsibility for the production, transmission, and distribution of water across the country.
Speaking in an interview on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, she indicated that the company will continue to discharge its duties diligently irrespective of the challenges involved.
Madam Akomeah posited that when you do the evaluation and run the cost I incurred in the production, treatment, and transmission of the water, you will discover that Ghanaians are paying very little.
“The Ghana Water Company is efficiently producing, treating, and distributing the safest and most affordable water through excellent service delivery. We have dedicated staff who remain committed to serving Ghanaians. We strive for excellence, and that is what we will continue to do, she said.
She therefore encouraged consumers to be responsible citizens by paying their bills promptly and fully, and the company will strive to do better.
She told host Kwabena Agyapong that we have consumers who pay their bills on time and fully, whereas others are reluctant to do the same.
Madam Solace Akomeah said there are outstanding bills that some customers must pay, and officials of the GWCL have systems in place for collecting bills from customers.
She encouraged customers to pay all outstanding bills to prevent disconnection.
“Ghana Water provides highly affordable water to its citizens. Despite the high cost of production, treatment, and distribution, our transmission rates are very affordable, yet numerous customers default on payments. The extent of the outstanding arrears is remarkable, prompting us to encourage payment through convenient technological channels.”
