Political analyst Nana Piesie Anto says the response coming from Alan Kyerematen following former President John Agyekum Kufour’s endorsement of Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia shows he feels bitter.
He stated from the way he spoke that he had no expectation that Kufour would betray him.
“When you think about how he helped the NPP, especially Kufour, and how Kufour has abandoned him, he feels betrayed,” he explained.
Mr. Piesie Anto stated that Alan was perceived as a ‘Kufour’s Boy,’ and thus feels betrayed by Kufour’s actions.
Alan also expressed disappointment, claiming that the former President should have refused the request to endorse Bawumia because he is a statesman who must remain neutral in order to be consulted on matters of national interest.
Speaking on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, he said there is a known perception that Alan is the favourite of Kufour, and so if he is responding in this manner, it is expected.
In his view, the endorsement by Mr. Kufour could have been avoided, and to borrow the words of Alan, it has brought a blot on him as a statesman.
He went on to question why the former president refused to respond to some of the national issues that confronted the country.
“If you are regarded as a statesman but refuse to behave as such and begin to behave like a party foot soldier, people will criticise you.”
