The Ghana Police has arrested Oheneba Nana Asiedu, a radio and TV presenter with Wontumi Radio, for the publication of false news.
The police had earlier invited him for questioning following the presenter’s false claims that the elections would be held on different days for the contesting candidates.
He stated in the radio broadcast that the presidential elections would be held on separate days for the candidates.
The presenter stated that only Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and other candidates from number two to number seven will be on the ballot on December 7, while the other candidates from number eight, occupied by former President John Dramani Mahama, to number thirteen will face off on different dates.
He was asked to report to the Ashanti Regional Police Command in Kumasi to provide information and cooperate fully with the investigation process.
But the police, in its latest update, say the presenter has been arrested.
According to the police, the presenter has been arrested for offences including publication of false news, contrary to Section 208 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).
He is currently in police custody and will be presented before the court for him to face justice.
