The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has asked Ghanaians to help the police identify people who may try to disrupt peace during the December 7 elections.
He made the appeal while speaking to members of the Assemblies of God Church in Accra on Sunday, November 24, 2024.11.25
Dr. Dampare emphasised the importance of community involvement in maintaining law and order, emphasising the need for public vigilance to ensure the nation’s stability.
“We may not reach everybody, so what it means is that there could be a few others who still think that they can make an attempt to disturb the peace of this country. Those people, you may be in the community, you may hear of them, you may see them. Our prayer is to allow yourself to be used as a vessel of God to let us know those people so that we will give them a place that has been designated for them.
“As we speak, the police cells have vacancies, the prisons have vacancies. So that proactively we move them out of our community and keep them where they want to be kept so that we continue to live our lives to the fullest during the rest of the election period and beyond,” Dampare said.
He also visited a congregation at the Church of Pentecost in Accra New Town, where he urged the church to continue praying for peace and also live by example.
“We have come to say thank you to all of you in connection with these upcoming elections. The way we have allowed ourselves to be used as a vessel by the good Lord in conducting ourselves in a manner that has led to a situation where so far, with all the election processes, we have not heard anything [bad].
“Nothing has happened beyond us such that the peace we are experiencing during this election period has never happened before. It is because of the good Lord and his mighty hand upon our country and allowing ourselves as a vessel for his use.”
