John Dramani Mahama, the presidential candidate of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has reiterated that the government is collaborating with the Electoral Commission (EC) to rig the elections.
Addressing a mini-rally in Sekondi, Western Region, on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, the former President claimed that the EC had hired 65 NPP members as temporary staff for the upcoming elections in the Gomoa East constituency in the Central Region.
He informed the audience that the people recruited by the EC are card-carrying NPP members who were recommended to the EC by an NPP MP and party executives.
This, he noted, confirms the NDC’s suspicions of a joint effort by the EC and the government to rig the election results.
“We must all be vigilant and pay close attention to the polls because we can vote accurately, but some thieves will rig them. I saw a video from Gomoa East that shows one NPP MP and his executives submitting 65 party members to an EC official, who then added them.
“So, if such a person is present at the polling station, do you believe he will allow the polls to be fair? That is why we have consistently stated that there is collusion between the EC and the NPP to rig the elections, and we have evidence from Gomoa East.”
