A group calling itself Apex Citizens of Ghana has expressed concern over the influx of foreigners and their participation in criminal activities.
A member of the group, Ted Wilson, says there is a growing trend of some illegal migrants who are in the country without any form of official documentation and committing crimes against Ghanaians in the country.
Speaking on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, he stated that the Ghana Immigration Service and other officials of state must put in measures to address this challenge before it escalates.
He told host Kwabena Agyapong that from what they have gathered, foreigners, most particularly Nigerians, are travelling into Ghana without any proper documentation, but yet they are part of those allegedly committing crimes in the country.
According to several of them, they travel here with their relatives and farm animals and enjoy our national insurance scheme and free senior high school policies.
Speaking via telephone from Portugal, Mr. Wilson underscored the need for this matter to be addressed so these foreigners don’t take over the country.
Describing them as illegal immigrants, he said, ‘’As part of efforts to ensure we don’t have an influx, the Immigration Service must put in systems that will easily identify them. Just like the National Identification going on, we should adopt a system where all registered migrants that travel into the country would be issued with an identification. Those who do not have this form of identification and documentation must be sent back to their countries’’.
He emphasised that “illegal migrants should leave Ghana because they are undocumented and it is much easier for them to commit crimes and get away with it.” They can easily get away with illegal activities and do not pay any taxes to benefit the Ghanaian economy.”
