Customers of Menzgold, a defunct gold dealership company, have asked the government for GHC 200 million to pay them their locked-up funds before the general elections on December 7.
He lamented that several people’s life savings and investments were frozen, resulting in the deaths of many of them.
He stated on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM that they will not give up in their efforts to ensure they are paid.
That is why we are requesting that the President release GHC 200 million for distribution to Menzgold customers. This is not free money, but rather a loan that will be paid to us prior to the elections so that when the assets of the company’s owner are auctioned, the proceeds will be used to pay the GHC 200 million,” he told host Kwabena Agyapong.
He said by close of work Monday, December 1, 2024, and they have not heard from the president and his administration, ‘’we will come into the elections and take a decision because we have realised that elections have consequences. So we will make a firm decision on December 7, 2024, to send a strong signal and decide who will rule this country’’.
Responding to the GHC 2.5 million, which was previously released by Nana Appiah Mensah, aka NAM 1, to be used as part payment to customers, he said, ‘’That was a drop in the ocean. ‘’That amount of money was not enough to pay the aggrieved customers. That is why we have appealed to the President to release the GHC 200 million to pay us so we can vote in the elections. Those who have died and continue to die due to this issue are alarming, and we want him and his administration to address it.
I don’t know of any country where its citizens have died because their investments were locked up. This is not a pandemic where an outbreak of a disease is killing us. In 2020, the number of aggrieved customers that had died was less than 100, and now, in 2024, the number of those who have died is 230, and the reason why they are dying is because their funds are locked up,’’ he added.
He added that ‘’our departed souls and forefathers will not forgive the leadership of this country if they fail to do what we are asking for now.
