The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) has advised drivers to avoid participating in political debates by passengers.
Industrial Relations Officer for the GPRTU, Abass Imoro, said the GPRTU does not engage in politics and has advised drivers to avoid it, especially when travelling with passengers.
Speaking in an interview on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, he stated that the GPRTU does not engage in politics because it is non-political.
“But we are also aware our members are with the NPP, NDC, CPP, GUM, and the other parties. Our members are scattered around the various political parties. But we don’t entertain political activities.
“We are advising our drivers not to participate in any form of debate with passengers. Allow the passengers to debate, but don’t join them. Concentrate on your driving. The passengers will debate and express different opinions, but as a driver, you don’t have to participate. We would also discourage our drivers from pasting any political party colours on their cars to avoid any form of trouble,” he stressed.
He said the most important thing we must all cherish is the need for peace before, during, and after the elections.
Ghana, he said, must guard against all forms of violence in the upcoming elections so that we will all go to the polls and exercise our rights as voters.
“Our call is for peace before, during, and after the elections. We encourage Ghanaians to go to the polls and exercise their rights as voters. We have to go and vote and return home peacefully.”
