December 2, 2024
John-Mahama

A study conducted by two of Ghana’s top security analysts, Dr. Adam Bonaa and Dr. Nana Yaw Akwada, has revealed that the personnel from the various security services prefer former President John Dramani Mahama as president in the upcoming elections.

The study showed that John Dramani Mahama is leading by 53.8% in their joint survey conducted and completed just four days ago among state security officers interviewed nationwide.

According to the study, 52.9 percent (480 officers) of the respondents said the former president is their preferred candidate because they think he is most likely to provide equal opportunities to state security officers.

The opportunities are the areas of promotions, peacekeeping missions, and further studies.
Dr. Mahamudu secured 25.2 percent, with 229 officers settling on him as their preferred candidate for president.

The primary objectives of the survey are to assess the voting intentions and preferences of security officers in the 2024 elections; to examine the factors influencing the voting decisions of security officers; and to evaluate the level of confidence in the electoral process among security officers.

It also seeks to identify the demographic characteristics of security officers and their voting patterns and to explore the relationship between election security concerns and voting intentions among security officers.

The specific objectives of the survey are to identify the top three factors influencing the voting decisions of security officers and to determine the preparedness of security officers towards the 2024 election.

The survey presents the results of data analysed using a sample of 907 security officers who form part of the special voters to be held on December 2, 2024.

According to the researchers, purposive and convenient sampling was used to select security officers across the country.
Data collected via questionnaire was analysed using IBM SPSS version 26 software.

The questions were only closed-ended, where responses were provided using a 5-point Likert scale: 1—highly dissatisfied or strongly disagree, 2—dissatisfied/disagree, 3—somewhat satisfied/indifferent, 4—satisfied/agree, and 5—highly satisfied/strongly agree.

A mean value of 3.00 was used asthe benchmark for comparison, where mean values above 3.00 represent satisfaction/agreement with the questions while mean values below 3.00 represent dissatisfaction/disagreement. Mean values of 3.00 represent somewhat satisfied/average/indifferent/not sure.
