Rightify Ghana has encouraged members of the LGBTQI+ community to participate in the December 7 presidential and parliamentary elections.
A statement issued by the Human Rights group said while it does not endorse any individual candidate, members must evaluate the options and make the best choice available.
It indicated that while the group recognises the hostile environment for the LGBTQI+ members, they should not boycott the general elections.
‘’Despite this hostile environment, we urge the thousands of eligible LGBTQI+ voters not to boycott the elections.’’
It added that the decisions made in the election will impact all citizens, including the LGBTQI+ community, on critical issues such as the high cost of living, unemployment, bad roads, illegal mining (galamsey), poor infrastructure in schools and hospitals, widening inequality, and inadequate social services.
‘’We encourage you to make a plan to vote on Saturday, 7th December 2024. While we do not endorse any specific candidates or political party, we encourage you to evaluate the options and make the best choice available. Together, we can aspire for a future where progressive candidates emerge to champion inclusivity and equality.
If you encounter challenges during the voting process, report them to the electoral officers at your polling station. However, if you experience threats, or any human rights violations during the voting process, please report them to Rightify Ghana for assistance.’’
