The National Elections Security Taskforce, led by Inspector General of Police (IGP) George Akuffo Dampare, has warned private security operatives not to interfere with state security forces during and after elections.
He made the remarks at a meeting with the Association of Private Security Organisations.
Dr. Dampare stated that state security agencies would maintain complete control over election security, ensuring peaceful and orderly elections.
“That the only entity responsible for providing security are the state actors and nobody else. We also don’t want a situation where the ordinary voter is confused and probably intimidated by the sight of any form of uniform that makes them very apprehensive about showing up and casting their vote.
“To Ghanaians, we want to assure you that we have your backs and we will do all it takes so you don’t get confused especially the voters. So that you walk into the polling area to cast your vote peacefully with a lot of confidence knowing that nobody can intimidate you.
“We are with you and we are also with all the parties and the candidates to assure them that the structures we are putting in place are for the benefit of all. This is to ensure that you have confidence in the system and do not make any attempt on your own to provide security for yourselves.
“We are fully and totally in charge. Be rest assured”, he added.
