Executive Director of Peace Watch Ghana, Madam Nyonopa Daniels, has criticised the sharing of food by some parliamentary candidates with security officials who were in a queue to vote during the Special Voting Exercise.
She described it as unfortunate and called on the appropriate authorities to deal with the issue and prosecute those involved.
She specifically slammed the security officials for receiving the food from those who handed it over to them.
Madam Nyonkopa Daniels wondered why these security officers disgraced themselves by accepting the food given them.
To the MP, she asked her to bow her head in shame for using this as a means to influence the persons who were in the queue to vote.
Speaking on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, she stated that
Persons who are influencing voters with food and other gifts should be jailed because such persons are nation wreckers.
‘’Calling people to come and receive money so they will vote for you is extremely bad. Those who are also sharing food with the security officers who were in line to vote should bow their heads in shame. Why are you so desperate? The security officers who also accepted the food should bow their heads in shame. As a security officer, were we not eating before this election? Has the person brought you food before? But because it is an election, the person is handing over food to you. We should wise up. We should let the politicians know that they can no longer take us for granted. They cannot take us for granted. If you had rejected the food they gave you, they would have respected you.
She lamented that politicians have taken Ghanaians for granted for far too long, and it was about time the people push back and let them know they can no longer take us for granted.
“Assess your living situation and let that determine how you vote. Make an informed and better decision. We should inform the politicians that they can no longer give us peanuts, so we should vote for them. That’s exactly what we should do. “Ghana belongs to all of us, and we must protect it,” she said.
