Mr. Obiri Boahen, a private legal practitioner, has revealed that during the late JB Danquah murder trial, neither the wife, relatives, associates, nor MPs from both sides of Parliament attended any of the court sittings.
The lawyer expressed disappointment that no one close to the MP appeared in court during the years the case was pending.
Mr. Boahen, who had an interest in the case and had worked hard to see it resolved, lamented that he couldn’t understand why the widow of the late JB Danquah refused to appear in court.
He revealed this on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, in response to the court’s decision to declare a mistrial after the jury returned a 4:3 not guilty verdict.
He explained that, based on the latest outcome, the jury would be reconstituted and the case would be retried.
He was concerned, however, that if any of the witnesses called in this case are no longer available to respond to any issues raised in court, the proceedings could be jeopardised.
He then expressed disappointment with the late MP’s wife, family, and colleagues for their lack of interest in the case.
“From Baden Powell to the High Court, I’ve never seen the wife in court. I’d never seen her in court before. What kind of woman would marry a man, have two children together, and then refuse to attend his murder trial? This woman has never appeared in court. I don’t want to reveal too much, so I’ve decided not to comment on this issue. I’ve never met JB Danquah’s family, siblings, or court before.
None of them were in court. I never saw his work colleague at court before. There was not a single MP from both NPP and NDC in court before. Never did I witness that. I had on one occasion briefed the majority leader and chief whip, but no single MP was in court to follow the case. This is unfortunate. How can you work with someone and yet refuse to even follow his murder trial? This is so disappointing,’’ he added.
