On Thursday, December 5, immigration officers in the Akatsi North District of the Volta Region intercepted three booklets containing dummy ballot papers.
The ballots, each containing 1,000 sheets, were intercepted during a routine monitoring check.
The Immigration Service stated that the ballots were intercepted at Hevi, an unapproved route frequently associated with illegal cross-border activities.
According to officials, the 3,000 ballot papers were allegedly being transported to Vodome in neighbouring Togo.
The suspect in possession of the materials has been identified as Abraham Ahiabu, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Constituency Secretary for Akatsi North.
Details emerging indicate the suspect told officials the dummy ballots were for educational purposes.
He is also said to have told officials that there were an additional 20,000 ballot booklets.
