Executive Director of the Centre for Public Awareness and Opinion (CenPOA), Michael Donyina Mensah, has opined that the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has failed woefully in delivering on its promises.
According to the policy analyst, changing the government will ensure accountability.
Although he did not endorse or propose any candidates for whom he believes voters should vote, he did suggest that a new candidate other than an NPP candidate would allow for accountability.
He explained that Ghanaians get the opportunity to vote every four years in an election with a major objective of ensuring accountability.
Speaking in an interview on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, Mr. Donyina Mensah said the NPP campaigned rigorously on restoring confidence in the economy, dealing ruthlessly with corruption, and creating more jobs for Ghanaians.
However, they have not been able to deliver on these promises, and retaining them in office will prevent Ghanaians from having accountability.
He told host Kwabena Agyapong that “every four years offer us an opportunity for accountability. It is not just about the NDC and NPP. It is about Ghana’s interest. My focus is about how Ghana will develop. So when you go to vote in the December elections, you should vote wisely. When there is change, it offers us an opportunity for accountability. I say this because when the NPP is retained, it will prevent us from having any form of accountability of their stewardship”.
He said we will have no opportunity to prove the illegal mining crisis, the unprecedented levels of corruption, misappropriation, and other financial malfeasance.
He stated, “Regardless of the circumstances, the NPP will have the opportunity to win power again, but in this current situation, we must ensure that we vote for change.” I’m not campaigning for any political party. But I’m encouraging Ghanaians to vote for change. The NPP’s ideas will not help the country.
If you love Ghana and want it to develop, then we should bring in change. You may love the NPP, but they currently lack ideas, and so they should be voted out so they will go and find fresh ideas and return later. So I am for change, and not because I strictly endorse one political party or the other, but I am thinking of Ghana.”
