Former President John Dramani Mahama has been officially declared as the winner of Ghana’s 2024 presidential election, in the 9th general election.
According to the Electoral Commission, Mr. Mahama polled 6,328,397 votes cast, representing 56.55% of the valid votes cast.
He defeated Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who garnered 4,657,304 votes, representing 41.61%.
The results were declared by Electoral Commissioner Madam Jean Mensa on December 9, 2024.
She announced the results were from 267 constituencies out of the 276 constituencies from the 16 administrative regions.
The 2024 election saw a voter turnout of 60.9%.
Jean Mensa added that per the EC’s calculation, if the results of the nine constituencies, which come to a little over 947,000 votes, were added to that of Dr. Bawumia, it would not change the declaration of John Mahama as the winner.
According to her, the results of the nine constituencies would eventually be collated and added to the results for the Commission’s record.
The total valid votes, according to Jean Mensa, is 11,191,422, with rejected ballots being 239,109.
The total votes cast were 11,430,531.
The total number of registered voters in the register is 18,774,159.
