John Dramani Mahama, the President-elect of the Republic of Ghana, has appealed to supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to desist from looting and vandalising state properties.
During his acceptance speech after being officially declared the winner of the presidential election, he stressed that these acts of vandalism are unjustified and must cease.
He charged them to channel their energies into helping in resetting the country.
According to him, he knows the supporters are feeling frustrated and angry, “but I ask you today, please do not give in to negativity and pessimism.
There have been reports of vandalism at some government facilities and installations. I urge you not to vent your frustration in criminal enterprise . We must channel our anger and frustration into the positive enterprise of resisting and rebuilding our nation.”
He asked them to be brief in our celebration, for the weight of office will be a heavy one.
He went on to state that expectations of Ghanaians are very high, and the party cannot afford to fail them.
