President-elect John Dramani Mahama has commended Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for conceding defeat in the just-ended general elections.
Mr. Mahama described the action by the vice president as one that eased tensions nationwide.
Speaking during his victory speech at his campaign office on December 9, 2024, he indicated that the concession by Bawumia helped in fostering peace during a crucial moment for the country.
John Dramani Mahama has been declared as President Elect by Jean Mensa, the Electoral Commissioner.
He polled a total of 6,328,397 votes, representing 56.55% of the vote from the 267 constituencies out of the 276 constituencies across the country.
Dr. Bawumia, who secured 41.61% of the vote.
But before the results were declared, the vice president had conceded to John Dramani Mahama, saying per the collation done by his team, he had lost.
Dr. Bawumia received 4,657,304 votes.
