The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for Okaikwei Central, Abdulai Abu Baba Abubakar Sadiq, has been named the constituency’s Member of Parliament-elect by the Electoral Commission.
He defeated the incumbent, Patrick Yaw Boamah, in a closely contested campaign during the 2024 parliamentary election.
Information received earlier claimed that the incumbent had won. Following a review, the EC
announced Baba Sadiq as the winner.
Baba Sadiq secured 15,383 votes, while Patrick Boamah, representing the New Patriotic Party (NPP), received 14,949 votes.
The announcement followed the NDC’s request that the EC release the results for Okaikwei Central using two-thirds of the polling station results that were available.
According to the EC, it identified anomalies in around 31 pink sheets.
The EC held consultations before a final declaration was made.
The NDC posited that using two-thirds of the 141, representing 78 percent of polling stations, was a valid basis for declaring the results.
However, the NPP disagreed with the NDC’s request. Until the Greater Accra Regional Director of the EC provided input, the contested pink sheets for the contested polling stations were sealed in a vote box and kept in storage.
