Immediately pay all outstanding arrears to WACE; delay negatively affecting its work – MP

WAEC

Reelected Member of Parliament for Builsa South, Dr. Clement Apaak, has asked President Akufo-Addo to, with immediate effect, pay all the outstanding balances owed to the West African Examination Council (WAEC).

The Deputy Ranking Member on the Education Committee of Parliament said it was important to pay the outstanding balance so WAEC can meet its obligation.

The call by the MP and campaign spokesperson on education for the John Dramani Mahama campaign comes after WAEC issued a statement complaining of its inability to smoothly operate.

WAEC said it needed the balance of Ghc118,000,000 released so it would be able to repair faulty scanners and also pay its suppliers.

Dr. Apaak described the situation as unfortunate and called on the President to immediately deal with the problem.

He said a delay in paying WAEC the balance will negatively affect its operations and affect the erratic academic calendar.

He wrote “The Akufo-Addo/Bawumia gov’t must immediately pay the outstanding balance owed WAEC to enable the examination body to meet its obligations. A delay in paying WAEC will negatively impact an already erratic academic calendar”.
