Political analyst Nana Piesie Anto has advised the Electoral Commission (EC) to avoid attempting to overturn the results of some parliamentary elections.
According to him, rumours are circulating that the electoral body is conspiring to change and manipulate figures in some constituencies.
He stated that elections are won at polling stations, not at the EC’s offices; thus, if they are on a mission to manipulate figures in favour of defeated candidates, they should stop because it could cause chaos.
”There are rumours that the EC is conniving to alter and manipulate figures. There are rumours that previously collated results are being manipulated and changed in favour of candidates who did not win. We’ve already been told that elections were won at the polling stations, so what happened? Why are they doing this?
Speaking on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, he advised the EC to avoid any such attempts, assuming they were true.
He also commended Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for conceding defeat ahead of the official declaration, stating that it helped in reducing the tension that characterised the elections.
’I commend Dr. Bawumia. He demonstrated statesmanship. He cooled the tension, and if he had not done that, it would have created tension in the country. Now the tension has moved to the parliamentary election. Why should the EC put the country into turmoil by keeping quiet? Can’t we take advantage of digitisation in transmitting our results?”
