Reelected Member of Parliament for Banda constituency, Ahmed Ibrahim has declared that it will be suicidal for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to take Ghanaians for granted after its massive victory chalked in the presidential and parliamentary elections.
The lawmaker claimed that Ghanaians trusted President-elect John Dramani Mahama and voted overwhelmingly for him as president, as well as giving the NDC the majority of seats in parliament.
He stated that it is critical for them to deliver on the mandate given to them by the people, or else the voters will show them the exit.
Speaking on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, he stated that President Akufo-Addo failed the people and spread falsehoods, so Ghanaians decided to vote against the NPP to express their displeasure.
Ahmed Ibrahim stated that ”the NDC has never taken Ghanaians for a ride and will never do so. You will recall that when the NPP peddled falsehoods against Mr. Mahama, he told us that posterity would judge him, and he was duly elected president, giving him unprecedented victory. This history has not been documented in our history.
He was humiliated, but today, he has been giving a massive victory. President Akufo-Addo will hand over to him; Chief Justice Torkornor will swear him in as president. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and his wife will be heading to opposition. Parliament will also be a two-thirds majority. Anything they destroyed, this new parliament will restore it so that Ghanaians, particularly the youth, will no longer go through the level of hardship they went through under the NPP.
So the most important thing is to ensure that as a party taking over power, we don’t repeat the mistakes of the NPP. This is not the time to make merry. We have work to do. We need to govern with humility, accountability, and truthfulness, which I know the God who granted us this victory will grant us the grace to achieve our objectives,’’ he added.
