The minority leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, described the December 7 election results as a “people’s revolution” against a “insensitive and unresponsive” government.
Dr. Ato Forson, speaking in Parliament for the first time in two months since the house was recalled, emphasised that the election results reflected a significant shift in the mood of the Ghanaian people.
According to Dr. Forson, the election results were a direct response to a government that he described as obstinate, arrogant, and dismissive of public opinion.
He maintained that the electorate’s discontent with the departing government was evident in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) loss of a number of important parliamentary seats and in President-elect John Dramani Mahama’s resounding win.
In calling for improved leadership, Dr. Forson praised the Ghanaians for their “bravery and resolve.”
He ascribed the result to the public’s annoyance with laws and a management approach that ignored their interests and welfare.
“Mr. Speaker, what happened at the polls on December 7 was a revolution, the people’s revolution.”
“It was a revolt against a government that is obstinate, insensitive, high-handed, and dismissive of public opinion,” he added.
He urged members of the incoming government to draw valuable lessons from the elections of 2024.
