Director in charge of Training at the Electoral Commission (EC), Dr. Srebour Quaicoe has underscored the need for authorities of state to consider improving security measures for EC officials at collation centres.
His appeal follows alleged attacks on officials of the EC during the collation of results in the 2024 general elections.
He lamented that the security provided for officials of the EC during the elections was insufficient.
Speaking at an event organized by the Ghana Center for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana) on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, he stated that “So we need to also talk of the security of the processes. Because if you don’t have the security, no matter how well you prepare for it, it will come to nought.
“…Now no part of the collation centre is safe because they can come in at any time. The commission had wanted to meet today to have a look at if it can re-collate… I don’t think collating results where people know the results from the polling station should be something that we should be fighting over. So, please, we all need to think around it,’ he stated.
