The Electoral Commission (EC) has declared the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Charles Forson as the winner of the Tema Central parliamentary election.
The EC declared the NPP’s candidate winner after the recollation exercise.
The exercise came to a brief halt after the returning officer declined to proceed in the absence of representatives from all political parties.
The NDC’s candidate, Ebi Bright, together with her lawyer, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, demanded a complete recollation of votes from all polling stations in compliance with a court order.
But the EC’s returning officer said he will only start from where the exercise stalled previously.
Both NDC representatives stormed out of the collation centre in protest, leaving the process stalled.
Charles Forson of the NPP polled 18,870, whereas Ebi Bright of the NDC, who was declared the winner earlier, secured 18,815.
An independent candidate, Fredrick Aniagyei, had 229 votes.
