According to the former Special Prosecutor, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is not the first presidential candidate to concede defeat before the official declaration by the Electoral Commission (EC).
In a statement, the former Attorney General noted that historical records show that Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia is not the first incumbent presidential candidate in Ghana to concede defeat before official results.
Prof. John Atta Mills set this precedent in the 2000 elections, Martin Amidu posited.
Mr. Amidu opined that on December 29, 2000, a day after the election and before the official declaration by Electoral Commission Chairman Dr. Kwadwo Afari-Gyan on December 30, Prof. Mills graciously conceded defeat to his opponent, Mr. John Agyekum Kufuor of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
