Speaker Alban Bagbin has officially sworn into office the Members of Parliament for the month Parliament.
The 9th Parliament of the Fourth Republic of Ghana has also officially been inaugurated.
The ceremony was held on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at Parliament House in Accra, following the dissolution of the 8th Parliament at midnight.
Bagbin officially presided over the oath-taking ceremony for the 275 Members of Parliament-elect, excluding the representative from the Ablekuma North constituency.
The Speaker was first sworn in by the Chief Justice, Gertrude Torkornoo.
He then swore in the MPs.
The swearing-in ceremony was attended by family members, friends, members of the diplomatic corps, and other dignitaries.
The NDC is now the majority with 183 seats, with the NPP securing 88 seats.
The NDC’s leadership team includes: Majority Leader: Cassiel Ato Forson (MP for Ajumako Enyan Essiam); Deputy Majority Leader: Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah (MP for Ellembelle); Majority Chief Whip: Governs Kwame Agbodza (MP for Adaklu); Deputy Majority Chief Whip: Ahmed Ibrahim (MP for Banda).
Alexander Afenyo-Markin, who previously served as Majority Leader, will now take on the role of Minority Leader.
Patricia Appiagyei, the Member of Parliament for Asokwa Constituency in the Ashanti Region, has been appointed Deputy Minority Leader, while Frank Annoh-Dompreh, MP for Nsawam-Adoagyiri, will retain his position as Minority Chief Whip.
Other appointments include Habib Iddrisu as 1st Deputy Minority Whip, while the Second Deputy Whip went to the new MP-elect for Weija Gbawe, Jerry Ahmed Shaib.
